Remotely support tomorrow’s Rising Up! airport action

If you can’t be at tomorrow’s Rising Up! Heathrow action, then support it remotely from home. See details below from Rising Up!:

Airport expansion makes no sense – air pollution limits are already being breached and we need to be reducing flights to meet climate change targets not increasing them. The planned expansion at Heathrow will also see local communities bulldozed – where is the democracy? Watch this video for more information.

We have three actions you can join this coming weekend (including just for an hour from your own home!).

If you are already involved thank you! and please share so we can blast our targets

1. An action with high arrest risk – between facebook and our pledge we are on target here for 100 people but more would be great! PLEASE SHARE!

2. Protests at Heathrow (family-friendly demonstration – meet at 11.30am at the Three Magpies, Bath Rd, Longford, Hounslow TW6 2AU) (on target between local folks, pledgees and facebook joiners)

3. A communications blockade of Heathrow – you join in and make some telephone calls / post on social media if you can (again we are on target between pledgees and those joining by facebook). More information will come through this week to those signed up in the meantime you can pick your time slot

These actions are super important in terms of the movement to stop insane airport expansion. They are also our live experiment in creating inclusive actions for everyone to join in, which also include acts of civil disobedience, which have historically always been necessary as the way to see change.

Diversity of Tactics workshop at the Green Gathering

DGR UK members will be running a workshop at the Green Gathering titled “Diversity of Tactics: Identifying appropriate Goals, Strategies and Tactics in Environmental Activism.”

The mainstream environmental movement’s current tactics include lifestyle changes, petitions, lobbying, strengthening regulations, demonstrations and non-violent direct action. These are not proving effective as the destruction of our world increases. We are running out of time so we need to re-evaluate the assumption that only non-violence will be enough. The sabotage of infrastructure that is causing the damage to the biosphere is not violence, it’s self defence. We need to start thinking like a resistance movement that employs a diversity of tactics based on clear goals and strategies, rather than an environmental movement hoping for the best. This workshop will explore the range of tactics that are morally justifiable.

Power Shift UK conference

One of our people will be running a DGR UK workshop at the Global Power Shift UK Breaking Down the Barriers: Diversifying the Climate Movement Conference, this weekend in London. The workshop will explore how a diversity of tactics is needed for any movement to be successful.

Conference Agenda is here http://world.350.org/uk-gps/2014/04/29/power-shift-uk-2014-agenda/

Resisting Together

Resisting Together is an event of many ideas focussed on a single aim – the dissolution of Industrial Civilization through acts of resistance. There are many activists – community, political, radical individuals, groups and movements – operating both in the open and underground; we don’t agree on everything, but at our core we all seek to free humanity from the yoke of the industrial machine, the horror-play that the civilized world acts out every day, degrading the natural world and enslaving people in the pursuit of material wealth and power.

A mixture of talks and discussions and a chance to share, exhort, emote and learn from others how we can move towards a world where we are in control of our destiny, unfettered by the shackles of the industrial machine. This unique event seeks to bridge gaps and find commonality between the various strands of radical thought and action that are seeking to protect the future from ecocide. The range of topics, groups and ideas represented is deliberately broad, and there will be ample opportunity for you to add your own thoughts to the mix. We need it all.
